My Painting Journal Practice

The key to getting unstuck? Stop planning. Stop over thinking. Sometimes we just need to get out of our own way.

Think of it like improv… for painting. A spontaneous approach to getting unstuck. Creative play works because the process gets under the radar of the over-thinking brain.

This exploratory process is not about rendering life-like forms but about improvisation, making up imagery as we go along.

In fact the very risk of making a dot, a line, or a shape outside the confines of perfectionism reveals just what gets in the way of allowing play and the freedom to take the next step.

The gift of this practice is learning how to have a different kind of conversation with yourself and in return, discover hidden strengths and unforeseen options that help you move forward.

Think of the last time
you were:

• Stuck for a new idea
• Unable to find the energy to get started
• Blocked by self-doubt or your inner critic
• Unable to make a decision
• Paralyzed by too many possibilities
• Fearful of making a mistake
• Restricted by old habits
